Selection of a Boyser FMP Hose Pump for Lime Milk Transfer

For the transfer of lime milk, we selected a Boyser hose pump from the FMP series.

Lime milk is an abrasive slurry that tends to settle over time, which makes it a difficult product to pump. It requires a pump that can handle solids, reduce wear, and continue to operate reliably under tough conditions.

The Boyser FMP series is specifically designed for industrial fluid transfer and dosing applications, offering a robust and flexible solution for difficult media such as lime slurry.

Key characteristics of the FMP range:

  • Industrial peristaltic pumps designed for reliable fluid transfer and precise dosing
  • Robust construction with integrated bearing housing and large-diameter rollers for durability
  • Wide selection of hose materials and connections
  • Operating pressure up to 8 bar
  • Flow rates ranging from approximately 300 to 40,000 l/h
  • Easy, intuitive, and low-maintenance operation
  • Self-priming with unlimited dry-running capability
  • High resistance to abrasion and solids, ideal for slurries like lime milk

 

Selected Pump Configuration

For this application, we selected a Boyser pump configuration within the FMP-range with the following specifications:

  • Drive: gear reducer + inverter-rated motor with forced cooling and PTC sensors (230/400V)
  • Speed: 1 – 25 rpm
  • Flow rate: 0.4 – 10.1 m³/h
  • Power: 5.5 kW
  • Frequency range: 3 – 65 Hz
  • Gear ratio: 72
  • Speed @ 50 Hz: 1450 / 19 rpm

 

Construction details:

  • Stainless steel external fasteners
  • Stainless steel base frame
  • Chemical version (Halar coated casing + exhaust system)
  • Electro-optical hose leakage detection system
  • NR hose with stainless steel DIN DN65 connections

 This configuration ensures maximum reliability, chemical resistance, and operational safety in lime milk handling.

 

Pulsation in Hose Pumps

Due to their operating principle, peristaltic pumps inherently generate pulsating flow. Each rotation of the rollers produces pressure and flow variations in the discharge line.

While this is a natural characteristic of the technology, it may negatively affect:

  • Instrumentation accuracy
  • Pipe system stability
  • Mechanical lifetime of components

Use of a Pulsation Dampener

To ensure smooth operation and minimize these effects, a pulsation dampener is installed on the pump discharge side. For this project, we worked together with our trusted partner Hidracar, with whom we have maintained a successful, long-term partnership, selecting:

  • Model: U100B03N1-AI
  • Connection: DN65
  • Pressure rating: PN16
